Venetians
Venetians looks at the relationship we have with nature in our current society. For many people living in the urban environment a daily experience of nature is transitory if it even exists at all. Perhaps it is our disconnection and alienation from nature that has lead to its exploitation and neglect. My work verges on being a visual pun in the use of the blinds but it holds a deeper metaphor that raises questions about this relationship we have with our environment.

I chose to present this as an accordion style booklet as it is something that is small and intimate and can be held and enjoyed. I considered how one could still get that feeling of the ‘handmade' through holding the images. This was a practice that was prevalent in pre-industrial times when nature was, in a way, worshiped and very important in the spiritual lives of people.
The images are all presented as shot with only minimal post-production. The auto-colour on the camera has produced some inconsistent results in the images giving them a more organic feel and adding to the aesthetic appeal.
